On the afternoon of November 5, 2025, Thuyloi University had the honor of welcoming a delegation from Union Co., Ltd. (Japan), led by Mr. Rui Murahashi – President of Union Co., Ltd. Representing Thuyloi University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Canh Thai – Vice President, representatives of the Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation, Faculty of Civil Engineering, and students who had previously participated in internship programmes at Union Co., Ltd.

Opening the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Canh Thai expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Union Co., Ltd. delegation to visit and work with Thuyloi University. He provided an overview of Thuyloi University as one of Vietnam’s leading institutions in the fields of water resources, civil engineering, and disaster prevention, with more than 60% of its academic staff holding doctoral degrees, many of whom have studied or conducted research in Japan. The Vice President emphasized the University’s strong and effective cooperation with Japanese organizations and enterprises, and expressed his desire to further strengthen collaboration with Union Co., Ltd. in research, training, and the application of science and technology for community service.

Representing Union Co., Ltd., Mr. Rui Murahashi – President of the Company, expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm reception from Thuyloi University. He shared that since the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in April 2023, the Company and the University have maintained regular contact through meetings and online exchange activities. Notably, during August–September 2025, students from Faculty of Civil Engineering undertook internships at Union Co., Ltd., marking the first time the Company hosted interns from an overseas higher education institution. Mr. Rui highly appreciated the students’ professional competence, work attitude, and eagerness to learn, noting that the internship programme was a meaningful experience that brought practical benefits to both sides. He expressed his hope that the cooperative relationship between Union Co., Ltd. and Thuyloi University would continue to develop sustainably in the coming years.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Tung – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, noted that after completing their internships in Japan, the students showed clear improvement in professional skills, communication abilities, and confidence in an international working environment. He expressed his sincere gratitude to Union Co., Ltd. for its dedicated guidance and support throughout the internship period, and expressed his hope that the Company would continue to create opportunities for more students from the Faculty to participate in longer-term internship programmes, potentially eligible for academic credit within the curriculum.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Le Quang Tuan – Deputy Head of Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation, highly appreciated Union Co., Ltd.’s coordination in mentoring students and supporting administrative procedures. He proposed that both sides consider expanding cooperation beyond internship programmes to include scientific research, academic workshops, and faculty exchange, particularly in areas related to disaster prevention and sustainable infrastructure development.

Discussions between the two sides also focused on potential collaboration in research projects and technological applications for landslide and rockfall prevention, as well as joint activities in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Representatives of Thuyloi University shared that Vietnam is currently implementing major national infrastructure projects, such as the North–South expressway and railway systems, which require in-depth research on structural safety and disaster risk reduction. These areas present significant potential for future cooperation between the two sides.

Representatives of Union Co., Ltd. also noted that the Company has a team of highly experienced experts in these fields and expressed their strong interest in working closely with Thuyloi University to jointly research, develop, and transfer effective technical solutions for the benefit of the community.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to maintain regular communication and actively promote practical and effective cooperation programmes in the coming time.
